Andrew kicks off the evening with Pixinguinha’s vibrant “Ainda Me Recordo,” igniting the stage with passion. This fervor naturally transitions into the evocative and familiar melodies of Antonio Vivaldi’s “Concerto in D Major”. Each movement, from the lively “Allegro” to the haunting “Larghetto”, paints a vivid picture, drawing you into the heart of Europe.
As the atmosphere thickens, be taken to the cobblestone streets of Spain with 3 movements from the famous Suite Española No 1 by Isaac Albeniz. Featuring the grandeur of Sevilla, the lyrical beauty of Granada and the fiery fervour of Asturias. These pieces demonstrate Andrew’s refined touch and mastery.
The evening then takes a soulful turn with Graeme Koehne’s “A Closed World of Fine Feeling and Grand Design”. This piece unfolds like the seasons change from one to the next. It’s an especially attractive quality in this age of fast-paced living, and is told with a depth that only the guitar can convey.
Closing the program is a vibrant selection of music from Latin America, these are nothing short of show-stoppers – pieces that not only display skill but also capture the soul. With selections spanning from Venezuala, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil and Uruguay.
